Admission to the Victorian glasshouse in Golden Gate Park is free for everyone on the first Tuesday of the month. The galleries hold orchids, carnivorous plants and a warm lowland tropics room that is a good rainy-day bet. Arrive early, as the free day draws a line by midday.
