The fifth Bay Area Maya Festival fills City College of San Francisco’s Mission Campus for a free Saturday morning of Maya culture. This year’s theme is aj tz’ib: Maya writers and writing in the widest sense, from poetry, fiction and history to painting, weaving and pattern-making.
The published schedule runs from an opening ceremony at 9 am through two workshop sessions, a Triqui rappers performance at 11 am, lunch, and traditional dances and cultural garments at noon, closing at 1:30 pm. Community exhibits and information tables are open all morning, in Spanish, English and Maya languages.
Admission is free and open to the public. A good morning out for families and anyone curious about living Maya languages and traditions in the Bay Area.
