Haight-Ashbury
Haight Street, Buena Vista Park and Duboce Park, next to Golden Gate Park.
Haight-Ashbury is where Golden Gate Park begins. San Francisco Recreation and Parks describes the park as a 1,017-acre, three-mile-long urban park that stretches from the Haight-Ashbury neighborhood to Ocean Beach. Closer to Haight Street, Buena Vista Park is the oldest park in San Francisco. It is named for the views from its upper slopes, and it has winding trails, one of the city’s few remaining coast live oak groves, a playground and tennis courts.
Duboce Park, at Duboce and Scott streets, has a playground and a designated dog play area. Muni’s 7 Haight/Noriega bus runs along Haight Street, with stops at Masonic Avenue and Stanyan Street, and continues toward Ocean Beach. The N Judah light rail stops at Duboce Avenue and Church Street and at Carl and Cole streets. A family walk can start at Duboce Park, follow Haight Street, climb Buena Vista Park for the view and finish in Golden Gate Park.

About Haight-Ashbury
Haight-Ashbury centers on Haight Street, known around the world for the 1967 Summer of Love, and sits beside the eastern end of Golden Gate Park and the Panhandle.
Buena Vista Park climbs the hill in the middle of the neighborhood, and Duboce Park, with its playground and dog area, is at the eastern end.

What to See
Buena Vista Park
The city's oldest park climbs the hill above Haight Street, with winding trails, one of the few coast live oak groves left in the city, a playground and tennis courts. Open 6 am to 10 pm.
The Panhandle
A park three-quarters of a mile long and one block wide that joins Golden Gate Park, with a playground renovated in 2019, basketball courts, restrooms and walking and biking paths. Open 5 am to midnight.
Conservatory of Flowers
Glass greenhouse in Golden Gate Park with a rare and tropical plant collection. Open 10 am to 4:30 pm with last entry at 4, closed Wednesdays. Admission is free on the first Tuesday of each month.
Haight and Ashbury Corner
The corner that names the neighborhood, with the street sign and Upper Haight's shops and restaurants around it. The Grateful Dead's former house at 710 Ashbury is a private home, so look from the street.
Things to Do
Koret Children's Quarter and Carousel
Golden Gate Park playground thought to be the nation's first public one, with a climbing wall and rope structure, beside a 1914 carousel. Rides are $2.50 for adults, $1 for ages 6 to 12, free under 6. Hours vary.
Duboce Park Playground
Neighborhood park with a playground that has separate areas for toddlers and older kids, plus a basketball court and picnic area. Part of the dog area is people only. Restrooms are open 8 am to 8 pm in spring and summer.
Where to Eat
Pork Store Cafe
Breakfast and lunch spot on Haight Street with egg plates, pancakes and burgers. Its site calls the room family friendly. Check its hours before going.
Zazie
Cole Valley bistro a few blocks from the Haight serving daily brunch. Daytime tables are first come, first served through a waitlist kiosk out front, so expect a wait on weekends.
Escape From New York Pizza
New York-style pizza on Haight Street since 1986, per its own site, with a pickup counter for slices and pies. Check its menu for current prices.
