Bayview-Hunters Point

The southeastern waterfront: Third Street, bay-shore parks and neighborhood festivals.

Bayview-Hunters Point covers San Francisco’s southeastern waterfront, and its shoreline parks are the main draw for families. Heron’s Head Park, run by the Port of San Francisco at Cargo Way and Jennings Street, is a 22-acre open space that attracts more than one hundred bird species, and it has an EcoCenter with a classroom. India Basin Waterfront Park at 900 Innes opened in October 2024. Recreation and Parks plans to join it with the neighboring India Basin Shoreline Park to make a continuous 10-acre park on the bay.

Muni’s T Third Street light rail is the main way in. It runs along 3rd Street through Mission Bay, stopping at UCSF/Chase Center, and continues south through the neighborhood to its terminal at Bayshore Boulevard and Sunnydale Avenue. SFMTA lists several bus routes in Bayview, including the 15 Bayview Hunters Point Express. Heron’s Head is a good place for a bird walk with binoculars, and the India Basin parks are a good stretch of shoreline for a stroll.
