1. Outpost Playground at Presidio Tunnel Tops
Two acres of nature-style play built into the Presidio: a giant fallen tree to crawl through, a woodland climbing wall and splashy water channels modeled on the area’s historic creeks. The Golden Gate Bridge view is thrown in for free, and food trucks and picnic lawns are right outside.

2. Koret Children’s Quarter & Carousel, Golden Gate Park
Often called the country’s first public playground (it dates to 1888), Koret was rebuilt with vintage concrete slides, a wave-shaped climbing wall and a big rope structure. The 1914 carousel next door turns a playground stop into a half-day outing.

3. Helen Diller Playground at Dolores Park
The star is the hillside super slide, one of the city’s most famous, landing in sand at the bottom. Add bridges, rope ladders, swings and a toddler zone, plus some of the best skyline views from any playground in town.

4. Larsen/Lam Playground at Francisco Park
Built on an old reservoir and opened in 2022, this Russian Hill park has a boulder maze, a redwood trunk to climb, embankment slides and a net spinner, all with views of Alcatraz and the Golden Gate. It’s usually calm enough for toddlers to roam.

5. Lafayette Park, Pacific Heights
A fully fenced hilltop playground with five slides, a crank-operated water feature and a separate toddler area. Big lawns, shady trees and the neighborhood’s wild parrots make it easy to linger.

6. Willie “Woo Woo” Wong Playground, Chinatown
A 2021 renovation added wooden climbers shaped like a water dragon and a phoenix from Chinese mythology, a giant metal hill slide and a covered tower slide. Sports courts upstairs keep older siblings busy.

7. Presidio Wall Playground (formerly Julius Kahn)
Tucked against the Presidio forest, this renamed favorite has separate toddler and big-kid structures and an interactive wet-sand play area. Ballfields, courts and a clubhouse make it a full-day neighborhood park.

8. Mountain Lake Park, Inner Richmond
Renovated in 2017, this playground sits beside a small natural lake at the edge of the Presidio, with age-based zones, sensory play pieces and concrete slides. Trails around the lake make it an all-morning outing.

9. Joe DiMaggio Playground, North Beach
A gated neighborhood classic with metal slides, a rope spiderweb, swings and a merry-go-round. The library and public pool are right next door if the fog rolls in.

10. West Portal Playground
An inclusive, recently renovated playground with nature play, hammocks and public art, steps from the West Portal library, Muni Metro and the neighborhood’s cafes.

11. Yerba Buena Children’s Garden, SoMa
On top of Moscone Center you’ll find a 25-foot tube slide, sand and water play, a hedge maze and a climbing wall, with the 1906 LeRoy King Carousel next door. Easy to pair with a museum visit.

12. Salesforce Park Play Area
A small play area in a rooftop garden four stories up, reached by a free glass gondola at Fremont and Mission. Kids can also run the looping garden path and watch the bus-activated fountains.
