Project SF

A large painted mural covering the side of a building

Founded in 1977, this is the organisation behind a large share of the Mission’s murals, including Balmy Alley and the Women’s Building. The centre itself is a small visitor centre, art store and workshop rather than a white-cube gallery: the actual collection is the neighbourhood outside.

The most active option on this list for children. Saturday mural walking tours leave at 1.30pm and run about ninety minutes, and there are workshops and school programmes. Tours are paid; the centre and store are free. Monday to Friday 10am–5pm, Saturday noon–5pm.
