Fifty years old and now in a purpose-built four-storey space on Hawthorne Street near SFMOMA. It deals in blue-chip twentieth-century American and European work (Calder, Diebenkorn, Picasso on paper) alongside contemporary painters.
The catch is the hours: Monday to Friday 10am–5pm and closed both weekend days, which is unusual for a gallery and the reason people arrive to a locked door. Not a family visit.
