Muir Woods is the National Park Service’s redwood forest just north of the Golden Gate. The one thing to do before you leave San Francisco is reserve parking or a shuttle seat, because the NPS says that reservation is required for every vehicle and every shuttle rider.
Facts below come from two NPS pages read on November 3, 2026 (fees page last updated February 19, 2026; basic information page last updated February 6, 2026).
| Item | What the NPS says |
|---|---|
| Entrance fee | $15.00 per person, ages 16 and older; children under 16 do not need a pass |
| Annual pass for this park | $45.00; covers the holder and three other people 16 and older for 12 months |
| Parking or shuttle | A reservation is required for all vehicles and shuttle riders; the fee is separate from the entrance fee, and annual pass holders still need a parking reservation |
| Where to reserve | GoMuirWoods.com; you can also pre-purchase entrance fees there or pay at the Visitor Center on arrival |
| Open | 365 days a year |
| Address | 1 Muir Woods Rd, Mill Valley, CA 94941 (mailing address on the NPS page) |
A Simple Plan
- Before you goReserveBook parking or the shuttle at GoMuirWoods.com first. Without one, you cannot count on getting in.
- ArriveWalk the forestThere is no cell service, so download a map before you leave the city.
- AfterAdd the HeadlandsPair it with the Marin Headlands day trip or the Day Trips hub for a full day on the Marin side.
What We Could Not Confirm
- Daily opening and closing times: the NPS basic information page points to its Operating Hours and Seasons page, which we did not read. Check nps.gov/muwo before you go.
- Parking and shuttle prices: the NPS fees page says they are separate but lists no dollar amount. Check GoMuirWoods.com.
- Drive time from San Francisco and which shuttle stop to use: the NPS pages we read give neither. We have not driven it for this page.
- Accessibility details: the NPS basic information page links to its general accessibility page and gives none itself.
