The white Victorian glasshouse in Golden Gate Park drops its admission charge on the first Tuesday of each month. Inside are five galleries of orchids, carnivorous plants, giant lily pads and a warm highland tropics room that is a good refuge on a foggy morning. Free-day hours are 10am–4:30pm, with last entry at 4pm.
