Mount Davidson Park

Parks & Playgrounds · West of Twin Peaks · Myra Way

A tall eucalyptus forest in thick fog with a path at the bottom

At 938 feet, Mount Davidson is the highest point in San Francisco. Trails wind through a eucalyptus forest on the western slopes, where fog drip can make it feel like a rain forest, and through coastal scrub and grassland on the east side, which turn green in winter and fill with wildflowers in spring.

The 103-foot concrete cross at the summit went up in 1934. The park is a natural area rather than a playground: wear shoes with grip, since paths can be muddy and steep. Rec & Park lists park hours as 5 a.m. to midnight.
