Three Days in San Francisco: Add the Mission and Hayes Valley

A three-day San Francisco itinerary that builds on two days and adds museums, Hayes Valley and the Mission, with a route map.

A San Francisco cable car on its route with a conductor aboard.
A San Francisco cable car on a downtown street.

Days one and two are the two-day plan. Day three crosses downtown to the Mission and Hayes Valley for museums, murals and a long picnic on the grass.

A 1-day Muni visitor passport is $15 and a single cable car ride is $9, per SFMTA (the figures on our one-day page, read October 27, 2026).

Stops link to our place pages. Fares as read on October 27, 2026.

What We Could Not Confirm

  • Walking and riding times between stops: we did not confirm them from an official source, so none are listed. The map draws straight lines between pins; they are not walking routes. Use SFMTA or a map app for live directions.
  • Hours and prices: each stop’s own page on this site links to the operator and shows the date we checked. Confirm before you go.
  • Whether to do the Mission before dark: we do not give a safety read here. See safety and practical tips.
