Four Days in San Francisco: Add the Presidio or a Day Trip

A four-day San Francisco itinerary: three days in town, then the Presidio or a day trip, with a route map on our pins.

Days one to three are the three-day plan. On day four, stay in town for the Presidio and the bay’s edge, or take a day trip. Both options are below, and neither repeats an earlier stop.

Alcatraz closure: the National Park Service closed Alcatraz Island to visitors from October 26 to November 18, 2026 for dock repairs (read October 28, 2026; see our Alcatraz visit guide). This note hides itself after November 18.

Stops link to our place pages; day-trip facts are on the trip pages with their source dates.

What We Could Not Confirm

  • Walking and riding times between stops: we did not confirm them from an official source, so none are listed. The map draws straight lines between pins; they are not walking routes. Use SFMTA or a map app for live directions.
  • Hours and prices: each stop’s own page on this site links to the operator and shows the date we checked. Confirm before you go.
  • Which Option B trip fits your dates: check each trip page and its source.
