San Francisco’s weather is hard to sum up in one number. NOAA’s official monthly normals for downtown show a narrow range: the warmest month averages a high of 70 degrees and the coolest month a low of 47.

The table below is NOAA’s own data for two stations, side by side. It is a guide for packing and planning, not a forecast.

Read from NOAA’s National Centers for Environmental Information monthly normals files on . The numbers in this page were filled in by a script from those files; none was typed by hand.

The Numbers, Month by Month

Two NOAA stations. Downtown is NOAA’s San Francisco Downtown station (elevation 46 ft). Airport is San Francisco International Airport (elevation 2 ft). Neither is on the ocean side of the city.

Highs and lows are the average daily high and the average daily low for each month. Rain is the average monthly total. NOAA calls these 30-year normals: an average over 1991 to 2020, not what will happen this month.
